Adapting is all that we can do right now in 2020 but my skin is having a tough time adjusting to the new normal. Prior to the mask wearing days, I was confident in my skincare routine. Pimple? I could zap it with some salicylic acid over night and it would vanish!

But lot’s has changed. There’s no doubt that maskne (acne or blemishes caused by facial masks or coverings) exist. Mask wearing is the right step we need to take to keep those around us and ourselves safe. But in the meantime I’m sharing some tips that just might help put your skin at ease!

Silk Face Coverings

We all know silk has fabulous benefits for the hair and skin, so when I got wind that my fave silk pillowcase brand, Slip created face coverings, I grabbed one without any hesitations. My verdict? I love them! The face coverings feel great against the skin, they’re super easy to wash, easy to talk and breathe in. Oh and bonus, they look super luxe!

Detox Skin Often

Wearing masks for a prolonged period of time can be a recipe for breakouts so it’s important to detox with healthy acids and good-for-you bacteria killing ingredients! First up, let’s use AHA’s and BHA’s that will clear congestion above and below your pores. The Drunk Elephant T.L.C evening serum works wonders at loosening up sebum and unclogging pores overnight. I typically use this serum 3 times a week in my evening routine. You’ll probably see a difference in a week, significant results within 30 days!

Next up, I mask quite often weekly and if I didn’t have time for it before, I sure make time for it now! I run a rotation between Drunk Elephant T.L.C Sukari Baby Facial that I use once a week, Caudalie Instant Detox Mask and Youth to the People Yerba Mate Resurfacing + Exfoliating Energy Facial.

Wash your re-usable masks with gentle detergents

Over the years we’ve learned harsh chemicals have negative effects on our skin that often leads to redness, itching, irritation and blemishes. With the reusable face coverings comes the frequent washes and masks being so close to our faces, I’ve opted for organic laundry detergent.

Refresh your skin throughout the day

Micellar waters have been great magnets for dirt, grim and makeup. I’m obsessed with the Drunk Elephant E-Rase Milki Micellar Water because it acts like a makeup remover but also a refresher, without the need to rinse! In-between my shift or as I hop in my car after a long day, I run a (re-usable cotton round (I’ve been using the one’s by Velour Beauty) with the solution across my skin. It def restores the suppleness, glow and lifts dirt while on the go!
